Softshell typically consists of two or three laminated membrane layers. The outer layer is usually made of synthetic fibers such as polyester, polyamide, or polypropylene, as these synthetic fibers have the ability to transport moisture well without absorbing much moisture themselves. The interior is made of fleece, which provides warmth and makes it beautifully soft.
Softshell is robust, soft, and supple, and wicks moisture from the inside out to prevent sweating. Softshell jackets are water-repellent in light snowfall or rain, but not waterproof, so they're not recommended for persistent rain. This makes them the ideal companion for cooler temperatures, wind, and light precipitation.
